NATIONAL AVIARY OF COLOMBIA
It is the perfect place for ecotourism, but also a research center that seeks not only to conserve birds, but also to reproduce them.
Currently there are three breeding programs for endangered or endangered birds:
- Blue-billed Curassow (Crax Alberti), a species endemic to Colombia;
- Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus), emblematic bird of the country;
- and Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja), the most powerful bird of prey in the world.
The birds that live in the Aviary come from, among others, the Regional Autonomous Corporations of the country, who, due to illegal wildlife trafficking, have them.
Others come from exchanges between zoological institutions and many others from their 'in situ' reproduction.
At National Aviary of Colombia in Cartagena We have 170 species of birds and about 1700 specimens.
The route taken in the Aviary is one-way and lasts approximately two hours,
Because making this visit, some of which are endangered species, is such a good opportunity to observe a unique and wonderful collection of birds from Colombia and Latin America.
