Luminous plankton at Playa Blanca Baru
Durante el día, los visitantes pueden disfrutar la arena blanca y el agua cristalina del Mar Caribe
When night falls, a phenomenon occurs:Plancton luminoso" almost unique that can be observed in few places on the globe.
The presence of algae causes a reaction that makes the water glow with unique hues at night.
The agglomeration of these plants forms a luminous plankton which is imperceptible under sunlight, but in the dark it causes flashes of blue that are activated by the natural movement of the water.
The hidden natural wonder in Barú

Where we are going is called the Portonaito swamp.
The conditions of the place allow them to see very clearly; it has a single entrance where the currents are very strong and push the plankton inwards.
It is surrounded by mangroves that produce more oxygen than any other tree.
The maximum depth is between two and three meters, and the water temperature is between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius.
All these conditions make us see so much plankton.
